*****In the heart of the beautiful
North York Moors*****

The cottage in the December snow
The cottage was converted from one of our farm buildings, and finished in August 2008. We have tried to retain as much of the original character as we could, and you will find exposed stone walls downstairs and beams throughout. Modern conveniences include underfloor heating downstairs, supplemented with radiators to the shower room and upstairs. There is sky freesat television, but no mobile reception (most people are pleased about that!) A landline is installed in the cottage. The barn is close to the house but private from it, and forms part of a courtyard of buildings - the remainder are our stables. We have had wonderful feedback from our guests, and some return time and again. Most say they find the peace and tranquility just what they needed, with amenities for a more active holiday or a nice pub lunch a short drive away.
We are about 10 mintues drive from Castleton, where there is a Post Office,a Village shop selling newspapers and a wide range of goods including bakery, and a Co-op.
Larger supermarkets can be found at Guisborough which is about 20 minutes drive away. (Sainsburys and Morrisons). This is a large market town with a range of shops such as Boots, as well as banks etc. along the High Street
Castleton has a railway station which is on the Esk Valley Line. From here you can take a very scenic journey to Whitby or one of the very pretty stations in between.
From Grosmont station you can board the North York Moors Railway pulled by restored steam trains which travel between Grosmont and Pickering. These stations and trains are often featured on the drama "Heartbeat".
